Biological and technical aspects on valorization of red microalgae genera Porphyridium

Red microalgae genera Porphyridium are photoautotrophic with potential application as a natural source of high-value chemicals, including sulfated exopolysaccharides (EPs), phycobiliproteins (PBPs), and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) such α-linolenic (ALA), arachidonic (ARA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Their good tolerances toward dynamic environmental changes lead them to be attractive for sustainable large-scale production biomass biochemicals. Discussion on the biological nature culture strategies helpful improving more effective efficient cultivation system, which presented in this review. The typical characteristics main targeted biochemicals like polysaccharides, PUFAs, PBPs firstly presented. Some crucial parameters temperature, pH, salinity, light intensity then discussed their effect cell growth biochemical yield. Recent technology development is also evaluated final, compared established recent novel cultures. It expected that review could provide new insight strategy optimizing accelerating well economically viable industrial biotechnology based red microalga Porphyridium.
